Care
& Finishing |
| All of our furniture is constructed of solid western red cedar and has been sealed with a water sealer from the factory by a complete submersion. This provides an excellent moisture barrier and helps reduce splitting and warping, providing an excellent underseal for a good quality oil base stain or sealer. Although western red cedar is naturally decay resistant and a very dimensionally stable species of wood, an additional protective finish is recommended and will greatly extend the life of your furniture. What we recommend.. After you receive your new cedar furniture and it has been exposed to the outdoor elements for approximately 1 month (allowing the factory sealer to completely dry out and the wood to become thirsty). Your furniture will be ready for you to stain/seal. The use of a good quality sealer with added UV protectors can help protect the furniture from sun damage and bleaching out. We recommend "Olympic Maximum" in the "cedar natural tone" shade, if the natural cedar look is desired. Consumer Reports also rates it #1 deck finish. A semi transparent oil base stain can also be applied. These will also allow the grain to show through while adding some color and will provide a sunscreen (UV protector) to help the furniture from weathering or turning gray. If the natural look (graying) is what you desire, we still recommend a clear water sealer to protect your furniture from water damage. Helpful
