Mlada
Khudoley's name is a Russian name. The Russian
language uses a different alphabet than Latin
languages. The Russian alphabet is called the
Cyrillic alphabet. So, the spelling of Mlada Khudoley
in Russian is Mlapa
Cgpoleu.
Mlada's first name
translates with out any problems, but the first two
letters of the last name "Xy" cause a huge problem.
French culture and language were an intricate part of
Russian society in the 18th and 19th Century. In fact
some Russian intellectuals and royalty spoke French
better than their native Russian. This influence from
the French language transferred to all Russian
official documents so today all documents, (the
primary example being Passports), are transcribed
using
the French pronounciation. However, the French
language does not have a sound for "h", so they
transcribe Cgpoleu
as Khudoley. Indeed, that is
how Mlada's last name appears on her passport: Khudoley.
To the native English speaker the spelling of
Khudoley, is immediately read as "KOODoley." Well,
that sounds like a completely different name and
causes many problems. So, we have made Mlada's last
name the most clear for native English, German,
Italian, etc. speakers by spelling it without the
initial"K." Simply, Hudoley.
Other spellings of Hudoley that you may come across on
this website or other various reviews are: Khudolei,
Khoudoley, or Hudolei, even sometimes Chudolei, or Chudoley
But, also remember the true pronunciation is: Hoo-do-lay-ee
and the spelling Khudoley.
